Danish Royal Castles & Fairytales

Denmark is one of the oldest monarchies in the world and its long legacy is perfectly preserved with a wonderful collection of fine castles, manor houses and gardens in beautiful locations. Many are still used by the Danish royal family and most open for visitors. Highlights of the tour include the World Heritage site of Kronborg Castle, known as the Castle of Elsinore in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’, on Funen island, we discover Egeskov Castle, the world’s best preserved renaissance water castle and in Frederksborg Castle, discover what’s known as the ‘Nordic Versailles’. Couple this castle trail with a fairy tale visit to the childhood home of writer Hans Christian Andersen, exploring Odense and then the capital city of Copenhagen.
